The other evening, as I lounged on my sofa, I found myself absorbed in an episode of The Sopranos.
In one particularly striking moment, Tony Soprano glanced at a hospital bulletin board and noticed a simple yet profound quote:
“Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky.”
This message struck Tony deeply—so much so that he clumsily repeated it to friends and family throughout the episode.
As the holidays approach, this sentiment has lingered in my mind. Life often feels overwhelming, but there are unseen forces that carry us forward. It makes me pause and ask: What challenges have you faced recently? What has helped carry you through?
Here are a few things I’m especially grateful for as we close out the year:
Moments of Joy
- Captured Memories: A professional photographer at Dave & Buster’s captured an adorable photo of my kids. Sometimes, these small moments of joy are all we need to recharge.
- Beautiful Views: The NYC skyline, especially during the holidays, feels like a gift. Its beauty reminds me to pause and appreciate the present.
Staying Connected
- Technology that Bridges the Gap: WhatsApp has been a lifeline for staying close to loved ones in England, especially during difficult times. It’s incredible how technology can keep our hearts connected, no matter the distance.
Inspiring Art and Performances
- Cole Escola’s Electric Talent: Seeing Cole Escola’s dark comedy play, Oh, Mary!, was unforgettable. Their brilliance lit up the stage and reminded me of the transformative power of art.
The Power of Relationships
- Friends and Family: Life isn’t without its challenges, but having a support system of family and friends who feel like family makes all the difference. Whether it’s a listening ear or a shared laugh, I’m endlessly grateful for these connections.
- This Community: Over the past 18 years, this space has become a haven for thoughtful, funny, and insightful people. Your presence means the world to me, and I hope you’re doing well.
What About You?
As we move into this reflective season, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
- What has been challenging for you recently?
- What keeps you grounded and moving forward?
- What are you grateful for, big or small?
Thank you for being here, for sharing, and for making this community what it is. Let’s carry each other forward into the new year with hope, gratitude, and strength.
